Guardamar del Segera is located beside the mouth of the Segura River on the Mediterranean coast of south-eastern Spain. The town gets its name for being the Guardian of the Segura River.
Near and around the area of Guardamer del Segura are the towns and villages of Campomar, El Raso and El Moncayo. Overall, the surrounding around has a population of over 40,000 people. Campomar is a small village with a large beach nearby called Guardamar del Segura.
Guardamar del Segura
Guardamar del Segura is a prime summer destination, not just for tourists but also for people with second homes and holiday homes. This means that the areas’ population rises every year from the permanent 15,000 residents to, in some cases, triple and even quadruple the number of permanent residents.
One of the main talking points of this area is its amazing, sandy beach. This is why so many people like to buy a second home in this area, with the second largest population in this area drawn from the United Kingdom. Other than the sandy beach, there’re many other great scenes around this area including forests, fields and orchards. It is a prime location for participation in water sports and is easy to reach from nearby cities and airports.
Very much likes it neighbour, Guardamar del Segura, the town of Campomar is a prime tourist spot and summer destination. It is also a great place for buying a second home to enjoy retired life. Around this area, you will find multiple historic ruins.
The town isn’t far away from the likes of Guardamar and the city of Torrevieja. So, you’re never far from a range of activities including different museums, different parks, the famous salt lakes and much more.
One of the main attractions in the area is the huge array of water sports. In the town of Guardamar, there is a sports facility offering numerous pitches, courts and an Olympic-size swimming pool. Golfing culture is strong in the area, with many courses merely an hours’ drive away. The courses that are close by are the La Marquesa Golf course, La Finca, Vistabella and also the award-winning Las Colinas course.
There is a marina in the town of Guardamar del Segura, making it the perfect spot if you are a keen captain or have a boat. The marina offers top facilities and many mooring spots. Near the marina along the beaches, you can also take part in some of the many water activities in the area. Activities such as kayaking, jet skiing and windsurfing are some of the many sports you will see in the area. Looking over the Mediterranean is the Castillo de Guardamar, a great tourist spot with a park and a choice of restaurants.
In both Guardamar and Campomar, there are no museums, apart from the Museo Arqueologico de Guardamar MAG, which is an archaeology museum. This area is rich in history: nearby in Campomar, there are ruins, providing ample viewing material for those heritage fanatics.
The nearby city of Torrevieja has many museums. One of the most unique museums is the floating museum, which is an S-61 submarine. It was once a Spanish army Daphne class submarine that was gifted to the Torrevieja council. Other great museums in Torrevieja include the Museum of the Sea and Salt and the Museum of Easter. Near Quesada, there is the Museo de la Huerta and the Museo Arqueologico De San Fulgencio.
Parks and Beaches
In the area of Guardamar del Segura there’re many parks and sandy beaches. You will never get bored in taking walks or cycles around this area seeing this area in all of its natural glory. The beaches of the area are all sandy and some even have their own sand dunes. There is also amazing pine forests around the area which offer great walks and cycling routes. You can find amazing animals and plants around every part of the area.
In Torrevieja there is a wonderful water-park called Aquopolis Torrevieja. There are many activities in the park for both adults and children alike. There is a small area for younger kids, larger slides and pools for older children and adults as well as a slide called the Kamikaze, which is a large slide into a small pool.
Wine and dine
In the town of Guardamar del Segura is a huge selection of world-class bars and restaurants – so you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out or enjoying a few hard-earned drinks. One of the best bars in the town is an Irish bar called The Shamrock. The bar has a great atmosphere, with great staff and customers.
The seafront also hosts multiple restaurants and bars. One of the best restaurants along the seafront is the Restaurante Isla Tabarca. It has a lovely menu and bar, with attentive staff for all your needs. A great Mediterranean restaurant along the seafront is the La Canada Playa Restaurante. Here you can enjoy some classic Mediterranean and Spanish tapas.
The town of Guardamar also has an Irish bar named The Shamrock, along with a wide mix of other restaurants, including traditional Spanish and Italian restaurants.
Around the area of Guardamar are several hospitals. Some of these hospitals are private but most are public and anyone can attend. There are also many medical centres throughout each of the towns, so you will always be close to medical assistance. There are also some hospitals and medical centres in the nearby city of Torrevieja. There is also a pet hospital in Guardamar del Segura. Campomar does not have a medical centre or hospital, but the town is 10 minutes away from Guardamar del Segura. There are also several police stations located in Guardamar and the areas surrounding it.
There are no universities in the town of Guardamar, but there are some nearby in the cities of Torrevieja and Alicante. Guardamar also offers many schools, including private and public schools (as well as a flight school nearby). There is a language school and a music school nearby.
In the areas of Guardamar, the climate will be the same as the climate in the cities of Torrevieja and Alicante. This is a Mediterranean climate. Overall this area experiences almost 300 days of sunshine with an average temperature of 20 degrees. The warmest months of the year are the summer months of June, July and August and the coolest are the winter months of December, January and February.
